Yerevan/Mediamax/. Defense Minister of Armenia Davit Tonoyan has made a statement today regarding the cases of coronavirus in the army.
“We carried out comprehensive preventive measures against the spread of coronavirus in the army, creating the conditions to keep the soldiers safe from the virus. Nevertheless, it is impossible to exclude the spread of coronavirus because a large number of service men and women are in daily contact with the civilian population.
On March 25 we tested three members of the military, who were not involved in combat duty. All three have tested positive for COVID-19. A family member of one of these three soldiers tested positive for coronavirus earlier. These three cases in the army are connected and the source of infection is one of the two registered in the country. The three soldiers have been isolated, which greatly reduces the risk of further spread of the virus.
They are hospitalized now, they are in satisfactory condition, and none of them has pneumonia. One of the soldiers has slight fever, two others show no symptoms of the disease.
Samples were taken from 32 other soldiers for testing.
The military unit where the three coronavirus patients serve is located far away from the border. The unit has declared a lockdown and undertaken the toughest preventive measures against the spread of the virus. Medical monitoring is underway,” said Davit Tonoyan.
