Nearly 400 young men (17-23-year-old), to be conscripted this summer, have applied for the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence training course organized by the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technologies (FAST).

The intensive training course aims to provide future conscripts with additional knowledge in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence for them to become more qualified to serve in the “Unit 1991”.

FAST, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia and the Hi-Tech Cybersecurity Center signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create the “Unit 1991” in September 2019.

“With this training course, FAST aims to strengthen the knowledge of potential young conscripts in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence. The periodic educational courses will start 6 months prior to each conscription and last 24 weeks. The next course will kick off in summer 2020. We are excited to start the program with 400 candidates,” said Armen Orujyan, FAST Founding CEO.

“The Ministry of Defense of Armenia attaches great importance to the “Unit 1991” training course implemented by FAST. It should be noted that attending the course is of immense value, yet not a guarantee that young people will serve in the “Unit 1991”. This admission will be organized separately. In addition, anyone can prepare and apply for the “Unit 1991” on his own,” noted Artsrun Hovhannisyan, Defense Minister’s Spokesman.

Applicants had 91 minutes to answer 19 questions. FAST will invite the successful applicants to an interview.

As a result, about 60 future conscripts will attend a 6-month free-of-charge training course to be officially launched on January 29.
