Armenia is not going to expand cooperation with NATO, Foreign Ministry spokesman says (edited)

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenia is not going to expand the formats of cooperation with NATO.

Armenian Foreign Ministry’s official representative Tigran Balayan told ITAR-TASS commenting on the publications on the plans of strengthening of Armenia-NATO military cooperation.

 

“We have definite formats of cooperation with NATO. We’re not going to expand or change them”, said Tigran Balayan.

Shortly after publishing this report, ITAR-TASS edited its report changing the headline and content. The headline is now: “Yerevan is going to continue cooperation with NATO within current formats”. Tigran Balayan is quoted as saying: “We have certain formats of cooperation with NATO. We are going to continue the cooperation in these formats”.

NATO has drawn up plans to strengthen military co-operation with Armenia and Azerbaijan, Guardian wrote yesterday referring to Spiegel magazine which got a leaked confidential seven-page paper worked out for the of Foreign Ministers of NATO member states in Brussels.

 

The paper proposed  military training for Armenia and projects in Azerbaijan aimed at securing its Caspian Sea oil and gas fields.

 

The document also suggests holding of joint exercises with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova aimed at increasing the interoperability of their militaries with NATO, and their participation in NATO “smart defense” operations.
