Yerevan /Mediamax/. Within the official visit to Armenia, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström announced today that Stockholm wants Armenia and the European Union to sign “an ambitious agreement” in future.
Margot Wallström made this statement at the joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Yerevan.
The sides discussed prospects of broadening and deepening bilateral political and economic relations, touched upon regional matters, including settlement of NKR conflict, democracy and human rights in Armenia, reforms and Armenia-EU relations during the negotiations.
Margot Wallström observed that Sweden as one of the Eastern Partnership initiators encorauges EU to show an individualized approach to Eastern partners.
“We will continue to support and promote this initiative, and make efforts to keep it in the EU agenda. We encourage a “more to more” approach,” stated Swedish Foreign Minister.
While speaking of NKR conflict settlement, Margot Wallström noticed that one of the goals of this visit is to understand Armenia’s methods and expectations.
“We are confident that NKR issue cannot be resolved with the use of force, and we should do all we can not to increase the tension but to decrease it. We call for the sides to work with OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to reach a peaceful settlement of the issue,” said Swedish Foreign Minister.
