Today we live in a society, which can not imagine life without expressing views on social media. Probably it does have certain advantages. Nevertheless, many participants of active discussions have already forgotten or do not even know about the developments, which unfolded in Armenia 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

•    15 YEARS AGO: NOVEMBER 8-14, 2006

Injury received in Iraq and visit to Iraq

On November 11, Armenian Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan said that the Armenian peacekeeper - Senior Lieutenant Georgi Nalbandian was seriously injured in Iraq. The minister informed that the doctors had to amputate the Armenian peacekeeper’s leg.

The mine blew up when the multi-national military autocade was returning to the place of permanent deployment after accomplishing a military task.

On November 13 the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan expressed its “deepest concern” for the Armenian peacekeeper, seriously injured in Iraq. The statement of the U.S. Embassy reads: “Armenia's contingent in Iraq is carrying out the extremely important but dangerous work of bringing peace and democracy to the country.”

On November 13 Armenian Defense Minister, Security Council Secretary under the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, left for Iraq. Before departure Sargsyan stated that the Armenian Defense Ministry turned to the parliament with a proposal to prolong the term of the Armenian peacekeepers staying in Iraq.

Armenia’s Action Plan within the framework of European Neighborhood Policy

On November 14 Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian and the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland, presiding in the EU, Paula Lehtomäki, signed in Brussels the Action Plan of Armenia within the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy.

In her speech, Paula Lehtomäki highly assessed the Action Plan, jointly worked out by Armenian and EU representatives, stating the readiness of the European Union to take up the realization of the document.

Situation needs “essential changes”
 
On November 8 Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stated that the situation in Armenia “evidently needs essential changes and bold initiatives.”

Speaking at the session of Political Assembly of the European People’s Party in Brussels the Prime Minister stated:

“Armenia is determined to pass this way. Armenia headed by President Serzh Sargsyan has a political will to speed up the reforms.” The PM agreed that “Armenia currently has a split between the values declared and reality.”

“Though we share more common values and traditions with Europe, the heritage of Ottoman Empire and Soviet Union left its imprint on our social rules of conduct. But we believe that the democratic reforms bear the potential for changing the conduct,” stated Tigran Sargsyan.

Renovated House-Museum of Martiros Saryan

After over 3-year old reconstruction the House-Museum of Armenian artist Martiros Saryan opened again in Yerevan on November 8.

As part of the reconstruction, the foundation and load-bearing walls of the building were strengthened, a new, 4th floor was built, for holding events.
