Yerevan/Mediamax/. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian has stated that if the Armenian Genocide had not taken 1.5 million lives in 1915, around 20-25 million Armenians would be living in the world today.

“The denial of the genocide comes from the fact that Turkey has not recognized it,” he said to StratNews Global, an Indian news agency.

“1.5 million people were murdered in the former Ottoman Empire. Those people had lived there for thousands of years, there were not newcomers to the land. Where is the culture, thousands of churches, fortresses, cultural centers, great literature, etc.? There is history and the world has recognized it. If one day Turkey officially recognizes, it will be for the benefit of the people and country of Turkey in the first place,” he said.
