Yerevan/Mediamax/. Today, the head of the Population Census and Demography Division of the Armenian National Statistical Service, Karine Kuyumjyan, presented the data of the population census for the first half of 2011.
Addressing a press conference in Yerevan today, she said that this year the birth rate fell by 4.4% as compared to the same period last year and the mortality rate grew by 3.2%.
“As of July 2011, 20 102 births and 14 743 death cases were registered against last year’s 21 029 and 14 290 correspondingly. Thus, the natural birth rates have fallen (5359),” Karine Kuyumjyan said.
The head of the Population Census and Demography Division also said that the number of marriages has grown by 7.2% (9264 marriages against last year’s 8732).
