Yerevan/Mediamax/. The head of the Department of National Minorities and Religion Affairs of the Armenian government, Vardan Astsatrian, said today that the active street propaganda of religious sectarians should be limited.
Addressing a press conference today, Vardan Astsatrian said that such problems should be loudly voiced in public, Mediamax reports.
“Religious organizations build temples near our schools, yards, play and recreation areas. This is unacceptable,” he said.
Vardan Astsatrian agreed with the opinion voiced by a journalist that his department is actually helpless in such cases, noting that the new draft law “On the freedom of conscience and religion” submitted by the Ministry of Justice limits the authorities of the structure even more.
“The new draft law contains no article “On expert opinion” and the issue of criteria based on which the religious organizations are being registered remains open. Besides, to prevent the illegal steps of sectarians our department should be allowed to carry out inspections,” Vardan Astsatrian said.
