Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Government approved the package of changes and amendments to the draft Electoral Code of Armenia at the session today.

Armenian Presidential Chief of Staff Vigen Sargsyan stressed that this is “a result of a unique agreement, as the government made a compromise with proposals of the opposition and NGOs and approved a rather large package of amendments, which requires significant funding.”

According to Vigen Sargsyan, they are working with potential donors, especially the UN Development Programme.

The project was estimated approximately USD 16 mln by the UN Development Programme and the EU Delegation.

“Even if we ensure funding of the program without budget expenses, i.e. by donor means, the realization will still require significant efforts. This is a display of good will from the government and the state, so as to ensure transparency of the process in accordance with international standards,” noted Vigen Sargsyan.
