Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenia has voted against the resolution on Syria, adopted at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council on March 24 at the initiative of Great Britain, the EU states, Turkey, Jordan, Qatar, and Kuwait.

Russia, Bolivia, Venezuela, China, and Cuba have also voted against the resolution.

27 of 47 member states of the council, including Ukraine, have supported the resolution. 14 countries, including Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan, have abstained.

Representative of the Russian delegation Dmitry Vorobyev has stated that the resolution is “extremely subjective, based on groundless claims and false assumptions; it distorts reality and is openly politicized.”

TASS reports that the resolution’s main target for criticism and condemnation are the Syrian authorities.

Vorobyev has pointed out that the resolution “lacks clear reference to the imperative of the fight against terrorism and thus distorts the real cause of the tragedy that happened in Syria.” Additionally, he says, the document ignores “the foreign occupation of a part of Syria and the pillage of natural resources.”
