Yerevan /Mediamax/. Azerbaijan failed to pass an anti-Armenian resolution at the session of the Executive Council of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

At the 99th session of the UNWTO Executive Council in Samarkand in autumn 2014, Azerbaijan came up with a politicized draft resolution conflicting the objectives of the organization, which was eliminated from the agenda without discussions owing to the Armenian delegation’s efforts and was consequently passed to the World Committee on Tourism Ethics.

The members of the Executive Council stated at that time that the agenda item contradicted the mission and objectives of the organization.

The Azerbaijani press has recently disseminated misinformation according to which the resolution was allegedly adopted at the 100th session of the UNWTO Executive Council in the city of Rovinj in Croatia on May 27-29, 2015.

According to Mediamax’s sources, in fact, despite the vain resistance of the Azerbaijani side, the Executive Council only discussed the World Committee on Tourism Ethics’ consultative proposal without touching upon the draft resolution submitted by Azerbaijan for the second time.

As a result, the Executive Council took into consideration the consultative proposal of the Committee noting that if any other issues on the subject arise, only the above mentioned proposal should be referred to.

The proposal notes that tourism contributes to “mitigating international conflicts and contradictions among states and establishing peace in the world”.

At the session, the delegations strongly condemned Azerbaijan’s attempt to politicize the activities of the organization in their written and oral speeches.
