Today we live in a society, which can not imagine life without expressing views on social media. Probably it does have certain advantages. Nevertheless, many participants of active discussions have already forgotten or do not even know about the developments, which unfolded in Armenia 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

To fill the gap Mediamax presents 5/10/15 project, which introduce developments in Armenia 5, 10 and 15 years ago.

“The entire world advises Turkey”

On July 21, Armenian President Serzh Sargsian stated that “the entire world advises Turkey to demonstrate political will and ratify the signed Armenian-Turkish protocols”.

“Turks, it seems, do not hear this and urge us to demonstrate will”, the President stated at the meeting with Miasin youth movement.

Commenting on the statements of the Turkish side, according to which Armenia rejects the hand of friendship lent to it, the President stated that “the officials of that country sometimes say what they want, without having serious grounds and distorting the reality”.

“Armenia has never rejected a hand of friendship lent to it, but when there is no such thing in reality and there is only the illusion, we do not pay attention to it. We have already demonstrated will and we wait for the Turkish side to be ready to do the same”, Serzh Sargsian stated.

The conclusion of the UN International Court of Justice

On July 26, the NKR Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the conclusion of the UN International Court of Justice on independence of Kosovo “had an imperative precedent-related importance”.

“The International Court of Justice confirmed and legally approved that the right of the people for self-determination and its implementation violates no principle or standard of jus cogens, including the principle of territorial integrity. This decision has imperative legal, political and moral, as well as general precedent-related importance and cannot be limited only to the example of Kosovo”, the statement read.

The same day, commenting on the decision of the UN International Court of Justice, vice speaker of the NKR Parliament Arthur Tovmasyan stated that the Parliament of Armenia might begin the process of NKR recognition. According to him, it has been actually confirmed in the Hague Court that the right for self-determination prevails over the principle of territorial integrity.

On July 20, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that Armenia would continue cooperation with the European Union (EU).

Addressing a briefing with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, the Armenian President noted that the parties were unanimous in the opinion that Armenia-EU relations were developing dynamically.

“I hope that the talks on the new Armenia-EU legal document will start and their successful completion will open a new page in our relations”, said Serzh Sargsyan.

The Armenian President also noted that the principle of mutually beneficial cooperation between the EU and partner states on a differentiated basis was confirmed at the Eastern Partnership Summit held in Riga in May.

“I don’t conceive of Armenia’s development without reforms and without the European practice and assistance,” said Serzh Sargsyan.

Belgian Parliament recognizes the Armenian Genocide

On July 23, the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium adopted a resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian welcomed the adoption of the resolution, noting that it finalized the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Belgium.

“The Belgian Senate acknowledged the Armenian Genocide by a special resolution still 17 years ago. On June 18, 2015, the Prime Minister of Belgium reiterated the government’s stance on the unequivocal recognition of the Armenian Genocide,” said the Armenian FM.
