Our year of 2011

As everybody sums up the passing year these days, in my last column of 2011 I decided to speak about all the significant events taken place in Mediamax's life.

This year we strengthened our lead positions on the Armenian internet market which is confirmed by foreign independent experts. Our Auto.am, Banks.am, Itel.am and Bravo.am projects keep developing very well. In spring, we re-launched our Mediamax.am site on which you are reading this column right now.

I can state honestly that the site and its content are yet rather far from the standard we have set. But I am sure we are pursuing a right path and our site will be more interesting for our readers in 2012. I think you have already made sure that our main goal is to provide quality news for smart people and we won't digress from this goal to artificially increase our audience.

Understanding that we can't fully develop on a market which is underdeveloped and is need of knowledge and good experience, we implemented Yerevan Web Meetings 2011 project in cooperation with VivaCell-MTS. Owing to this project, Wikipedia and Facebook representatives visited Armenia for the first time. I hope that 5 master classes conducted within the project were really beneficial for the participants.

This year, we took part in releasing the disc of WhoCares super group set up by lead singer of Deep Purple Ian Gillan and guitarist of Black Sabbath Toni Iommi which was aimed at raising funds for reconstruction of Gyumri N6 music school. The disc features the English version of Pictures of Home documentary that we shot. And even though we didn't manage to start the construction of the school this year as we had planned in early 2011, we hope that we will finally lay down the foundations of the new school owing to joint efforts of my dear friend Jon Dee, rock stars and Mediamax.

Our new employees were our most significant achievement as far as our company’s inner life is concerned. We had a record-breaking inflow of new employees and now we have a wonderful team as result and it’s yet going to surprise you a lot.

2011 was marked with 2 more events which I think are also important for Mediamax’s life. We managed to give good presents to 2 people. Hasmik Madatyan was the first who won the contest organized by Bravo.am and bmi airline. She is going to leave for London for 3 days in spring. Roza Abrahamyan was the second – she won “Armenia is Me” essay contest and accompanied the Armenian President during his visit to Italy just a few days ago. Roza sincerely presented her impressions and I can hardly add anything to them. I would just like to thank the Head of the Staff of Armenian President’s Office Vigen Sargsyan once again to have presented this miracle to Roza.

It’s written in “About us” section of this site: “We don’t try to save the world but we are sure we can make it a little better”. I am sure we made the world better for Hasmik and Roza in 2011 and that’s perhaps is our most important achievement of the year.

Ara Tadevosyan is the Director of Mediamax.
