Yerevan /Mediamax/. Azerbaijan is the second largest importer of major weapon in Europe.
“Trends in International Arms Transfers, 2013” report published by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) reads this.
“The UK was the largest importer of major weapons in Europe (receiving 12 per cent of deliveries), followed by Azerbaijan (12 per cent). Azerbaijan, which has a territorial dispute with Armenia, increased its arms imports by 378 per cent between 2004–2008 and 2009–13”, the report notes.
In 2009–2013, Russia accounted for 80 per cent of Azerbaijan’s arms imports.
“Other notable arms suppliers were Belarus, Ukraine, Israel and Turkey”, the report says.
