On April 16, 2001, Russian Embassy described the statements on "isolation" of the Head of Russian Delegation, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia V. Trubnukov at the negotiations in Key West as "not corresponding to the reality".

The statements were presented in a publication of Yerevan “Aravot” newspaper on April 13. The press release of the Russian Embassy read that “the assessments concerning Russia’s participation in Karabakh conflict settlement negotiation process, voiced in the article by an “independent” source or a source allegedly “close” to our embassy, to put it mildly, do not reflect the essence of the case”.

Commenting on Russian Foreign Minister’s participation in the negotiations in Florida, Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vardan Oskanyan was saying: “Vyacheslav Trubnikov has played a very important role in this process”. According to Oskanyan, every time, when negotiations were in a deadlock situation, Trubnikov was the one to manage to find compromise solutions.

The article, referring to “a number of competent sources in the USA”, read that the Co-chairs intended to expand the format of Karabakh settlement on informal basis, “including in the game” the representatives of Sukhumi and Tbilisi․
