A small company within a big company: this is how the employees call the Research and Development (R&D) lab of Synergy International Systems, Inc. This is the place, where the ideas of future are ‘born’ and implemented. Mediamax tells about the R&D lab and those people breathing life into it.

The greatest power

Synergy Intelligent Data Manager is the company’s “pride”- a basic technology thanks to which the company always stays a few steps ahead. This is the platform based on which Synergy’s products and services are developed. It is created at Synergy R&D lab.

“Synergy Intelligent Data Manager (Synergy IDM) is the achievement of the company’s Research and Development lab. We have launched it to keep pace with the world and over our 22-year history we have made huge investments. About 30% of our talents work at R&D. We have been constantly researching and providing development, continuing to explore, study and understand how we can make our products even better, what innovations we can apply,” says Ashot Hovanesian, Synergy International Systems CEO.

According to him, even at extremely overloaded and difficult times for the company those investments have never been decreased, and a very important team inside the organization has been constantly focused on innovation.

“We have already created the 8th version of our platform and I can say that it is our biggest power. Our employees are solving not only today’s problem but are thinking about the future as well,” says Ashot Hovanesian.

Hasmik Martirosyan, Chief Operating Officer, says that throughout the launch and re-operation of Synergy IDM, they are guided by global world trends, ensuring even better functionality, high security and uninterrupted work of the platform for a large number of users.

Hasmik says that the challenges the sector faces are immense, and the approach of working with data is rapidly developing around the world.

“There is an opportunity to collect data and store a huge amount of data; however that opportunity entails both advantages and challenges. Besides the fact that these data allow making in-depth analysis or predictions, there are also challenges related to protecting these data as it is ought to, making them accessible, ensuring personal data protection, and a number of other issues.

We are very attentive in this regard, trying to rapidly respond to arising situations; we develop our products so that they meet personal data processing and privacy requirements,” says Hasmik Martirosyan.

IDM’s functions, potential?

The platform enables its users to independently formulate goals, model the process, enter data, track performance, generate reports, develop work plans, attach beneficiaries involved, ensure data security, etc. IDM makes it possible to digitize real-life process and ensure high quality.

Grigori Aghayants, Senior Product Owner, says that due to the experience gained through cooperation with various governments and organizations, they have created dozens of ready-made solutions in the system, hence, it is this system with ready-made solutions that makes Synergy different from many other companies.

“Any entity that comes to us can quickly get a solution to 70% of their problems. These solutions are universal and can be simultaneously used for problems of various nature and levels of difficulty,” says Grigori Aghayants.

The powerful team

“The IT industry is like a crazy whirlpool. It is one of the most rapidly developing spheres in the world today. Therefore, people who develop and promote all these innovations should quickly adapt to new situations and developments, quickly master world trends and take immediate actions. That is how Synergy R&D lab researchers are,” Anna Stepanyan, Director, People & Organisation at Synergy International Systems Armenia says.

Anna also says that people with unlimited creative potential work at the R&D lab, where once every two years a new Intelligent Data Manager is given birth to. These professionals are never satisfied with what has already been created, they love to explore continually, learn endlessly, self-develop and make experiments.

“We are trying to find some important qualities in people here; the ability to never give up and never be afraid. Moreover, these people are even ready to shoulder additional tasks and overcome new challenges,” says Anna.

R&D as a paradise for professional growth and opportunities

“There are companies where people work within the scope of orders received and can never go beyond their limits. There are companies the Armenian branches of which do not have the huge authority of making decisions. However, there are companies with no limitations and it is up to them to decide and define the goals to be achieved. This is how they work at Synergy R&D lab,” says Grigori Aghayants.

According to him, all decisions are made by the team of highly qualified, creative and hardworking specialists.

“Nobody tells us what to do and how to do it. Working at such a company gives you the opportunity to endlessly discover not only the world technical potential of the world but also your own creative potential. You feel that as a result of the ideas generated by you and those wide, irreplaceable opportunities of creating innovations you are continuously developing and reaching self-realization. Due to this approach we have signed various contracts, leaving behind the world’s leading companies,” says Grigori.

The tasks that R&D lab faces are diverse, and team members are carrying out diverse research to find the best solutions. Each new project brings new challenges, and while solving international experience and trends are studied, company's various approaches and options are developed.

“We are aiming at being a number of steps ahead because there is a possibility that many solutions provided through various tools and algorithms will cease being up-to-date with time. We are trying to make predictions in order to gain time while adapting to new requirements. You are in a much more favorable position when you understand in advance where the trends are leading and manage to keep pace with the leaders. Otherwise, it is very difficult to adapt to changes. We are doing our best to always be ready for changes and we know that change is the most stable thing,” says Ashot Karapetyan, Systems Senior Architect.

As co-workers say, working at the lab has an interesting difficulty. According to them, it is very pleasing being innovative, constantly following global trends and developments, however it is much more important to keep the balance between the creator and the practitioner.

“Of course we cannot delay or slow down, since it may cost us dearly, and our specialists do their job with great honor. At the same time, being a member of that team is very hard. On the one hand you should pursue innovations and be very creative, and on the other  you have to be practical. If you only pursue creativity, you may end up “stuck in the clouds”, never bring these ideas down to earth and realize them. In fact many powerful professionals are gathered here, who can both be creative, as well as give life to their stellar ideas and develop them,” says Tatevik Khachatryan, Senior Product Owner.

Anna Stepanyan says having an R&D lab is a luxury for many companies, because investment made in R&D pays off years later only.

“Not all the companies can afford a team which focuses on the problems of the future instead of those of today. Synergy is proudly to be counted among those organisations where the R&D lab solves the problems of future today. Our experts have great opportunities to be creative, and leaving behind many at the top making Synergy a world-leading tech company of the day,” says Anna Stepanyan.
