Yerevan/Mediamax/. A blast took place near the district of Mazzei of Damascus where the Armenian Embassy is located last night.
Representative of the Armenian community of Syria, member of the Union of Arab Writers Nora Arissian said this talking to Mediamax.
Spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan informed Mediamax that the details of the incident are being found out.
As a result of the explosion in Aleppo on March 18, Syrian-Armenian Araks Petrosyan died and 5 Armenians, Syrian citizens, were injured.
In his interview to Mediamax in February 2012, one of the representatives of the Syrian opposition, writer Yasin Al-Haj Saleh said that the Armenians of Syria are not in danger.
“I don’t understand why there is an apprehension they will be under pressure. I think there is nothing to worry about. Nobody accuses Armenians of anything… At least, I haven’t heard anything like that. Armenians lived here after the World War 2. They are fully integrated and make part of the Syrian society”, said Yasin Al-Haj Saleh.
Nora Arissian said that the funeral of Araks Petrosyan took place in Aleppo today.
“The wounded are members of the same family which lived in the building located near the epicenter of the explosion”, she said.
Nora Arissian is concerned about the fact that the explosion took place in a Christian district in which the Armenian community is located.
“The explosion burst out when children returned home from the Armenian colleges”, added Nora Arissian.
