Armenians –the 6th largest nation in Russia

Yerevan/Mediamax/. The Federal State Statistics Service of Russia published the final results of population census held in 2010 in Russia. During 8 years since 2002, the number of Russians has decreased by 2,3 million. The number of citizens living in the Russian Federation made 142 million 857 thousand people, RBK reports.

Russians are the largest nation in the country – 111 million. However, during these 8 years their number has decreased by 4 million. The number of Caucasian nations has grown instead. Chechens are the largest Caucasian nation in Russia – 1,43 million.

 

The number of Armenians living in Russia made 1 million 182,4 thousand (0,86% of the whole Russian population). Armenians are the 6th largest nation in Russia after Russians, Tatars, Bashkir people, Ukrainians, Chechens and Chuvash people. The number of Russian Armenians exceeds Azerbaijanis (603 thousand) almost twice and Georgians (157,8 thousand)  almost 7 times .

 

There are 106,5 thousand Armenians, 57,1 thousand Azerbaijanis and 39  thousand Georgians  living in Moscow, which has a population of 11,5 million. Armenians make the second largest nation in Russia’s Krasnodar and Stavropol regions after Russians – 5-6%. Thus, there are 281,7 thousand and 161,3 thousand Armenians living in Krasnodar and Stavropol regions correspondingly.

 

The population growth in all federal districts of Russia has been registered only in the central region – (38,4 million, growth - 0,4%) and in North-Caucasus region- (9,4 million, growth – 0,5 million).

 

The number of women in Russia exceeds men by 10,8 million- 1163 women for 1000 men. Besides, the population of Russia continues to become older: the average age of country’s citizens made 39 against previous 37,6.

 

It should be noted that the final results of the population census held in Armenia this October will be endorsed in 2012.
