Yerevan /Mediamax/. Secretaries of the Armenian and Russian Security Councils respectively, Armen Grigoryan and Nikolay Patrushev have discussed over the phone the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Armen Grigoryan has said that Azerbaijan’s encroachment on the sovereign territory of Armenia is unacceptable, and therefore, the Azeri troops must withdraw.

He has noted that Azerbaijan’s claim is ungrounded and the maps going back to the Soviet times show clearly that the Azeri troops have encroached onto the Armenian territory.

Touching on Armenia’s appeal to the CSTO, Armen Grigoryan has attached importance to the possibility of using relevant mechanisms in the CSTO framework in order to resolve the situation quickly.

According to the Armenian Security Council’s press office, “Patrushev has highly appreciated the restraint demonstrated by Armenia in the matter, also attaching importance to application of all diplomatic means possible for resolution of the issue”. He has added that Russia is working intensively at all levels to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
