Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that "the uncertainties of the trilateral statement signed on November 9 must be clarified.”

In an interview with the Armenian Public TV, the PM said that “the statement is not a document of political settlement.”

Commenting on the statements of the opposition that the agreement can be canceled, Nikol Pashinyan said:

“Of course, we can tear that statement and throw it away, but we should also understand the consequences. Will we return to the situation in which it was signed?”

Speaking about the reopening of communication routes mentioned in the trilateral statement, the Prime Minister said that Armenia will seek to have a railway connection with Iran through Nakhichevan and with Russia through Azerbaijan. “It may be a turning point, but these issues should be discussed during negotiations. It may or may not work,” Pashinyan said.

According to him, after having failures on the military front, “the political task was to make a breakthrough, and we did everything possible for that.”

“The decision to sign the statement was made when we realized that we could not make a breakthrough. It was the fall of Shushi,” Pashinyan said.

He emphasized that the return of Azerbaijan’s 7 regions has been the only definite point in the negotiation process over the last 25 years. Pashinyan noted that in 2015, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs reached a consensus that the territories should be returned by 5 + 2 formula. He also noted that Russia’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has not changed in the last 4.5 years.
