Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian authorities will spare no effort for a sustainable, safe and healthy energy system.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker, RPA spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov stated it at the conference following the meeting of the RPA Executive Body June 26.

According to him, among a number of domestic political issues Armenia’s energy security was also discussed at the meeting.

“It is highly important for the Armenian authorities. It’s not just about those AMD 6 or 7 but about establishing a healthy and sustainable energy system, which is not a matter of a day or two. Starting with the President, nobody is for higher energy prices. The issue is more global and we should do our best to find a solution to it,” said Eduard Sharmazanov.

The RPA spokesman stressed that the numbers the government presented were objective and noted that “it doesn’t mean the issue will not be discussed; the authorities will spare no effort for a sustainable energy system.”

Eduard Sharmazanov touched upon the offer the Armenian President made to the Minister of Transport of Russia – to conduct an audit at the ENA.

“If the Russian partners have agreed to carry out an open and social audit, then there is a need for it. Had there not been any need for it, the Armenian President would obviously not offer it,” he said.

Asked whether the audit would be conducted by August 1, before the decision on higher electricity prices enters into force, and whether as a result of it, the higher rate might be acquired through investments, Sharmazanov answered that as of now, he cannot speak about it and assured that other meetings with the representatives of the authorities will also take place in the coming days.

Touching upon the protesters at Baghramyan Avenue, Eduard Sharmazanov said they respect the peaceful protests and noted that “all processes should proceed peacefully.”

“The authorities and protesters want one and the same thing – a healthy energy system without increase in prices,” said Sharmazanov.
