Today we live in a society, which can not imagine life without expressing views on social media. Probably it does have certain advantages. Nevertheless, many participants of active discussions have already forgotten or do not even know about the developments, which unfolded in Armenia 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

To fill the gap Mediamax presents 5/10/15 project, which introduce developments in Armenia 5, 10 and 15 years ago.

“Resolution of the conflict will require peacekeepers”

On December 28, Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian stated that the visits of representatives of the OSCE High Planning Group to the region “do not mean that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be settled in 2006.”

He noted that the planning of the peacekeeping operation might take 8-12 months, which was why representatives of the OSCE High Planning Group decided to start working at that time in order to avoid the situation when the sides might agree to resolve the problem but the peacekeeping operation would not be ready.

When asked why the OSCE High Planning Group representatives did not visit the region in spring 2001, when the sides were so close to signing a peace agreement after the Key West talks, Oskanian said: “The Key-West principles meant another type of conflict resolution, and today everyone understands that the resolution model we work upon now will require peacekeepers.”

The sides change attitude towards the territories

On the same day, Oskanian said that Armenia and Azerbaijan changed their attitude towards the matter of occupied territories around Nagorno-Karabakh.

“I believe we will be heading in a wrong direction if we make keeping the occupied territories our final goal. The same may be said in regard to Azerbaijan: we have been in a negotiation deadlock for a long time because Baku considered the issue of these territories as a primary and only task and rejected any discussions about the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. The situation has changed now and that is why we have achieved progress in the talks,” said Armenian Foreign Minister.

Serzh Sargsyan has no intention to conceal shortcomings

On December 28, Armenian President Serzh Sargsian stated that “we do not intend to conceal the shortcomings, which exist in the public administration system.”

Speaking at the New Year reception for representatives of mass media in Yerevan, he said:

“Once again I have to stress that we do not intend to conceal the shortcomings, which exist in the governmental system or in the society, and as to this issue we continue feeling the necessity of your assistance. We need your honest and impartial work in order for the Armenian society, the entire governmental system, various structures and figures to be able to see their real image in the mirror of the media. It is very important for it not to be a distorting mirror and for the presented image not to be false.”
