Today we live in a society, which can not imagine life without expressing views on social media. Probably it does have certain advantages. Nevertheless, many participants of active discussions have already forgotten or do not even know about the developments, which unfolded in Armenia 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

To fill the gap Mediamax presents 5/10/15 project, which introduce developments in Armenia 5, 10 and 15 years ago.

“An empty man, a liar, a rumormonger”

On September 1 Armenian Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan called the leader of the National Unification Party (NUP) Artashes Geghamyan “an empty man, a liar and a rumormonger.”

He made those remarks while commenting on Geghamyan’s accusations against him, which he alleged could be Geghamyan’s response to the Defense Minister’s rejection of his cooperation proposal.

“Geghamyan thinks the whole world rotates round him, but he doesn’t understand that nobody would remember him if he had not made such bold statements,” noted Sargsyan.

Commenting on Sargsyan’s remarks in May 2012, Artashes Geghamyan said:

“Of course, those were sobering remarks. Serzh Sargsyan criticized me and I criticized him, but today, despite the wishes of our country’s enemies, we are friends and more.”

A “very frank” message from Aliyev

On September 5 OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel stated he was going to deliver Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s “very frank oral message” to Armenian President Robert Kocharyian.

Upon arriving in Yerevan from Baku, Dimitrij Rupel said that the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict had to be based on two principles: territorial integrity and the nations’ right for self-determination. According to Rupel, “the issue lies in the details, which are to be discussed during the talks.”

A split in Republic Party

On September 6, former chairman of the Political Board of the opposition Republic Party Albert Bazeyan, former Armenian Defense Minister Vagarshak Harutyunyan and other five former members of the Party officially announced about leaving the party.

They argued their decision by the disagreement with the policy of the party, saying that Republic’s aspiration to solve internal political tasks mainly by means of external forces was “unacceptable”. In particular, Albert Bazeyan accused party leader Aram Sargsyan in “pro-American approach”.

“The most efficient way is resolute rebuff”

On September 6, President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Bako Sahakyan presented state awards to a group of servicemen for successful prevention of the efforts of the Azerbaijani intelligence and subversion group on September 4.

Touching upon the recent ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan, Bako Sahakyan described them as “terrorist and subversive acts” and stressed that only resolute rebuff was the most efficient way to prevent aggression.

“If this is not done, the limits of instability will expand,” he added.

“Azerbaijan has long become a fascist state”

On September 4 NKR President’s Spokesman Davit Babayan stated that Azerbaijan had long become a fascist state, which he said was indicated by Baku’s constant escalation of the situation on the borders with Armenia and Artsakh.

“Azerbaijan has long become a fascist state, a state demonstrating an aggressive behavior in domestic and foreign affairs. On the foreign front, it is manifested by provoking undisguised aggression against Armenia and Artsakh, and persecutions of activists and dissidents inside the country,” said Babayan.

“The adversary tries to transform the discontent in the country and present Armenia and Artsakh as Azerbaijan’s only problem. We have repeatedly highlighted Baku’s anti-Armenian policy but we haven’t seen an adequate response from the international community. On the contrary, the first European Games were held in this fascist country. Aggressors are encouraged by impunity,” stated Davit Babayan.
