Today we live in a society, which can not imagine life without expressing views on social media. Probably it does have certain advantages. Nevertheless, many participants of active discussions have already forgotten or do not even know about the developments, which unfolded in Armenia 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

To fill the gap Mediamax presents 5/10/15 project, which introduce developments in Armenia 5, 10 and 15 years ago.

“Still too early”

On 9 December 2004 Armenian Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan said that “it is still very early” to speak about his possible participation in presidential elections in 2008.

He made that remark in response to the questions of “Golos Armenii” newspaper’s hotline.

“It is still too early to speak of the elections. Of course, I can understand people’s interest, but I haven’t even thought about it,” said Sargsyan.

Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine is privatized

The signing of the agreement on privatization of 100% of Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine shares took place in Yerevan on December 14.

The price of the shares made USD132 million.

German concern Chronimet acquired 60% of the shares. The other 40% were purchased by Armenian companies Pure Iron Plant (15%), Armenian Molybdenum Production and Zangezur Mining (12.5% each).

“Not aimed against anybody”

“Normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey is not aimed against anybody,” Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on December 9, 2009.

“In general, we are positive about the significant warming of relations between Armenia and Turkey and the fact that you are trying to overcome huge problems which existed in the XX century through mutual restraint and search of compromise.

At that, I consider it very important for all other countries to understand that normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey is not normalization aimed against anybody. It is for Armenia, for Turkey and for all neighboring countries. If the message is put together and addressed in the right way, there will be no tension among other countries which follow these processes closely,” Medvedev stated.

“Doomed to fail”

On the following day Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated in Yerevan that Turkey’s efforts to link the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations to the settlement of Karabakh conflict “are doomed to fail”.

Speaking at the joint press conference with President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, Sargsyan noted that Armenia was ready to fulfill its commitments on ratifying Armenian-Turkish protocols signed in Zurich, “but we expect the same from Turkey”.

Serzh Sargsyan added that in case Turkey delays ratification of the protocols, Armenia would use all possibilities provided for by the international law.
