Yerevan /Mediamax/. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has stated that Armenia needs a Constitution that is not designed to serve the interests of a specific politician or a group.

He has made that remark at the meeting of the commission on constitutional changes, which has been held in the government building today.

“I have come to the conclusion that we need to not only implement constitutional changes, but actually adopt a de jure new Constitution. I believe that it is not a political necessity to make amendments to our current Constitution, but a national necessity to adopt a new one,” said Pashinyan.

According to him, it is evident from many issues that Armenia does not have organic connection between the state system and the citizens’ will.

“One of the key reasons is that in the Third Republic, we have not had a Constitution or a constitutional amendment in which citizens would see themselves as contributors, and that is the most important matter on our agenda, a philosophical issue, a content issue. It is very important for us to create organic connection between the state and the citizens’ will,” said Nikol Pashinyan.

According to the Prime Minister, there is no need for changes in the system of governance, and the parliamentary system still has to become established in Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan has also touched on the judiciary.

“I know that the commission is considering a single judicial system, which will include the judiciary itself and the constitutional judicial system. In other words, this option combines the functions of the Constitutional Court and the judiciary, as well as the Court of Appeal. Frankly speaking, I believe this topic deserves serious consideration,” said Pashinyan.
