Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian Public TV (APTV) didn’t send the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) specific security requests for its participation in Eurovision 2012 to be held in Baku.
Sietse Bakker, Event Supervisor Eurovision Song Contest, said this in his interview to Mediamax.
Earlier this week, official representative of the APTV Gohar Gasparyan said that Yerevan didn’t make a final decision on participation in “Eurovision” yet. According to her, the Armenian Public TV requested the EBU for security guarantees and waited for a reply.
Sietse Bakker said that “we have been in a dialogue цшер APTV about their participation in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest since June”.
“At this moment, we are not in the position to confirm or deny their participation, since we only announce the full participants list next week and do not comment on individual country's participation”, said Sietse Bakker in his interview to Mediamax.
“The EBU itself does not provide security guarantees, since providing such service is outside of our scope. However, we do request security guarantees and services from the Host Broadcaster and the respective authorities and/or partners. In this year's case, we have been given security guarantees applicable to all participating delegations from the Prime Minster of Azerbaijan. Additionally, Armenia's possible participation has been discussed with Baku city officials in August of last year, to reaffirm that security guarantees would apply to the Armenian delegation specifically as well. All potential participants, including AMPTV, have been informed about the PM's guarantees”, said Sietse Bakker in his interview to Mediamax.
Armenia has participated in “Eurovision” song contest since 2006 and Armenian singer Andre took the 8th place then. Hayko took the 8th place as well in 2007. Armenia’s best result in “Eurovision” remains the 4th place which was taken by Sirusho. In 2009, Inga and Anush Arshakyan sisters were the 10th and Eva Rivas – 7th in 2010. Last year, Armenia’s representative Emmy didn’t pass the semi-final of the contest.
In December 2011, Yerevan hosted “Junior Eurovision” contest.
The issue of participation in “Eurovision” contest in Baku has been actively discussed in Armenia over the past 8 months. There are various opinions whether or not Armenia should participate in the contest in the capital of Azerbaijan where anti-Armenian propaganda is maintained on a state level.
There is no unanimity among the Armenian singers as well. For example, singer Razmik Amyan said that he wouldn’t participate in “Eurovision” contest if he was offered. And singer of “Reincarnation” Roland said in his interview to www.Bravo.am that “I am ready to set off right now and sing in the center of Baku, I don’t see any problems”.
