Yerevan /Mediamax/. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has stated today that “the main message from Russia is to immediately hold meetings and agree on mechanisms for ceasefire monitoring.”
“Yesterday the Russian Foreign Minister spoke in detail about this. We hope to launch such a mechanism as soon as possible,” said Maria Zakharova.
As for the settlement at the political level, she has noted that “a political solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is possible and necessary.”
“The proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs remains on the negotiation table: stage-by-stage liberation of the corresponding regions, implementation of security guarantees, and maintenance of reliable communication between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh until the status is clarified. The parties make plenty of statements, many of which are emotional. The most important thing at the moment is the ceasefire and the transition to the negotiation process,” said Maria Zakharova.
She has once again recalled Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement that Russia does not agree with Turkey's position that the conflict has a military solution.
“We cannot agree with the statement that there is a military way to resolve the conflict or that it is acceptable. Unfortunately, Turkey was able to do that and confirmed that it would support any action initiated by Baku, including military,” Zakhavora quoted Lavrov, noting that Russia’s stance is concrete, not ambiguous.
