Yerevan /Mediamax/. Deputy Commander of the Armenian air defense forces Garik Movsesyan has stated that the Armenian side has shot down an Azerbaijani Su-25 plane today.

Touching on Armenia’s air defense systems, Garik Movsesyan has said that “all necessary steps are taken to ensure that the air defense means are self-sufficient and capable of fulfilling the combat tasks for protection of air borders.”

Movsesyan has spoken about the offensive launched by Azerbaijan on September 27, noting that Turkish F-16 fighters have been actively involved in the bombing and missile strikes on the territories of Armenia and Artsakh from the very beginning.

“During the strikes on Mets Masrik and Sotk settlements in the Ganja-Sotk-Vardenis air sector on September 27, two F-16 fighters of the Turkish Air Force violated the airspace of Armenia up to 6km deep,” he said, recalling the downing of Armenian Su-25 by one of these Turkish fighters.

Garik Movsesyan has also said that F-16 fighters arrived in Azerbaijan this July, on the eve of the large-scale Turkish-Azerbaijani military exercises, and they did not return to Turkey after the drills.

“On September 23, the Turkish air force command completed a shift of F-16 fighters, their crews and technical personnel stationed at Ganja Airport. In fact, the flight from Turkey to Azerbaijan was carried out through Georgian airspace,” he said.
