Today we live in a society, which can not imagine life without expressing views on social media. Probably it does have certain advantages. Nevertheless, many participants of active discussions have already forgotten or do not even know about the developments, which unfolded in Armenia 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

To fill the gap Mediamax presents 5/10/15 project, which introduce developments in Armenia 5, 10 and 15 years ago.

“Armenia-2020”

On June 29 Armenian President Robert Kocharyan received in Yerevan the members of the Coordination Board of Armenia-2020 project, Ruben Vardanyan and Noubar Afeyan.

Vardanyan and Afeyan presented key directions of the project and the results of the work they had completed and revealed that that the forum of Armenia-2020 project was to be held in Yerevan in September 2005.

Armenia 2020 was a scenario-building initiative that focused on the identification of alternative development models for Armenia until the year 2020.

“The internal affair of the Russian Federation”

On June 30 Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the transfer of Russian hardware from the military base in Georgia to Armenia was the internal affair of the Russian Federation.

“Russia has this right and she exercised it,” said Erdogan, addressing a press conference after his talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The Turkish PM stressed that the issue of transfer of Russian military hardware “doesn’t concern Turkey.”

Vivacell starts operating in Armenia

New mobile operator Vivacell started operating in Armenia on July 1.

The first call in Vivacell network was made by Armenian President Robert Kocharyan at the official presentation of the new operator on June 30.

Minister of Transport and Communications of Armenia Andranik Manukyan said he was familiar with the “ultra-modern” equipment of Vivacell and hoped that it would allow the company to provide high-quality communication service.

“Cheap attempts”

On July 1 Armenian Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan said that the rumors about his intention to become a president by means of “palace intrigues” were “cheap attempts to drive a wedge between me and the head of the state.”

He stated that “Robert Kocharyan will fulfill his constitutional duties till the last second of his term in office.”

Commenting on the proposal of the Progressive Youth Party of Armenia to support Serzh Sargsyan’s candidacy in the next presidential elections, Sargsyan said: “If you think this party’s statement has increased my authority- it’s your right.”

“Three years are left before next presidential elections, and it’s early to speak about this. We shouldn’t hurry,” added Sargsyan.

“By means of a free expression of will”

On July 3 Russian Co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group Igor Popov stated in Stepanakert that “the status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be defined by means of a free expression of will of the people.”

“The Status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be defined democratically, by means of free will expression of people. It is yet to be discussed how it will be realized,” the Russian diplomat stated.

Clinton’s call

On July 4 U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated in Yerevan that “Turkey should make the promised steps on normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations.”

She made that remark, answering the question from Mediamax regarding Washington’s stance on the fact that Turkey did not fulfill its commitments on normalizing relations with Armenia, which were indicated in the protocols signed in October 2009 in Hillary Clinton’s presence.

“It was an honor for me to be present in Zurich at the signing of these historic protocols. It was a bold decision by the Armenian and Turkish leaders to take up steps on normalizing relations,” said the U.S. Secretary of State.

Hillary Clinton reminded that the USA welcomed Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s decision, who announced in April 2010 that the Armenian side was not coming out of the process of normalizing relations with Turkey but suspended it as long as Turkey did not demonstrate readiness to move forward.

“We welcome the readiness of the Armenian President to continue the process of normalizing relations despite all difficulties. Using the sports terminology, one can state that today the ball is in the field of the other party,” Hillary Clinton stated, urging Turkey “to make the promised steps on normalizing relations with Armenia.”

“Corruption is weakening our society”

On July 1 Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that the Prosecutor’s Office should be uncompromising to “the manifestations of corruption weakening our society.”

He made that remark in the congratulatory message on the Day of Prosecutor’s Office Employees in Armenia.

“To eliminiate cases of corruption, we need systemic solutions, which is impossible without your persistent and dedicated work,” noted the President.
