Yerevan/Mediamax/. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan attended the opening of Komitas Museum Institute today.

“Komitas Museum Institute stands for the unity and rebirth of the Armenian nation.

Archimandrite Komitas combined the spiritual and the secular, the Western Armenian and the Eastern Armenian proving the artificiality of those and various other dividing lines. Thus, he became the guarantor of the new course of genocide surviving Armenian people by lifting it up and bringing to an enormous “layer of civilization”.

I am happy this museum will help the unique legacy of Komitas become an object of coordinated studies and will be widely disseminated in both Armenia and around the world. Komitas is the “attendee” of our cultural life who continues to guide us in the complicated crossroads of the third millennium”, Serzh Sargsyan wrote in the Book of Honorary Guests of the Museum Institute.

In May 2013, based on the proposal by the Armenian President, the  Board of Trustees of “Hayastan” All Armenian Fund passed a decision to establish Komitas Museum Institute.

Komitas Museum Institute is the first newly established museum in independent Armenia. It is armed with modern technologies: it has a concert hall, displays a permanent exhibition and enjoys an opportunity to hold temporary exhibitions.

The permanent exhibition in eight halls of the Museum displays the entire life and work of Komitas, his emotional experiences and thoughts, music-theory and spiritual activities as well as his rich folklore heritage. The author and coordinator of the exhibition is Vardan Karapetyan and designer-artist is Alberto Torsello.
