Yerevan /Mediamax/. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has made a number of provocative statements today.
Trend reports that while speaking at the conference “New Look at the South Caucasus: Post-Conflict Development and Cooperation”, Alliyev said in particular:
“Zangezur was handed over to Armenia in 1920, 101 years ago. Before that, the territory belonged to us. When I say Geycha, they now call it Lake Sevan. It is the truth. It is enough to look at the map of the early 20th century. You will not see Sevan on it. You will see Geycha there. The same is with Irevan. They destroyed the historical part of Irevan. It is an obvious fact that Azerbaijanis, including my ancestors, lived there.”
“However, this does not mean that we have territorial claims. I said - yes, we will return there. I did not say we would return on tanks. If we return to the Zangezur corridor, if we use this road, why can we not return to Yerevan? The time will come, we will do it. I simply present my position,”Aliyev said.
