Le Monde: Erdogan doesn’t care about Trump and Putin

Yerevan /Mediamax/. French Le Monde writes that "Recep Tayyip Erdogan is challenging the world’s giants "and is not afraid of either Moscow or Washington.”

“Where is the American leadership when one of NATO members - Turkey - gets involved in hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh without even warning the “allies”? Where is the Russian control in the traditional “influence zone” when one former Soviet republic - Azerbaijan - is shelling another former Soviet state - Armenia - with the support of Turkey? Turkey, a regional power with gigantic ambitions, is not going to put up with Putin and Trump,” Le Monde writes in the article called “Erdogan’s Turkey ignores Kremlin and the White House”.

“If the US thinks that keeping Turkey in NATO justifies all the antics of Erdogan, then the latter has complete freedom to continue the policy of regional expansionism in the Caucasus, the Middle East, the Maghreb and the Eastern Mediterranean. The US definitely doesn't like it, but they put up with it.

Russia is not in the best position either. Putin was wrong if he thought that he got on Turkish President’s good side when he sold S-400 missile systems to Turkey last year. Today, the Kremlin strategist once again has to deal with Turkey and its forces on at least two important fronts: in Syria (Turkey occupies part of the country's territory) and Libya (Moscow and Ankara support different camps there).

When in 1956 President Eisenhower ordered (with the approval of the USSR) Britain, France and Israel to stop their expedition to Egypt, everyone listened to him. When the US called for peace in the Balkans with Russia’s support in the early 1990s, the guns fell silent. The heavyweights still had influence back then. Today Erdogan, who is inferior to Trump and Putin in weight, doesn’t care about both of them,” the article reads.
