Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian President Armen Sargsyan has stated that “if Turkey had not intervened in the war, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan would probably have agreed to a ceasefire.”
He has made this remark in the interview with Belgian periodical La Libre Belgique, also noting that Turkey is creating instability everywhere.
“Europe is the main target. Turkey has a lot of playing cards. One of them is energy. Turkey wants to control the flow of energy from the Caspian Sea and Central Asia. The countries of Central Asia, as well as Southern Europe, will depend on it. The other card is refugees and terrorists,” said the Armenian President.
Touching on Russia’s role, Armen Sarkissian has noted that it plays an important part in the region, has membership in the OSCE Minsk Group and good relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Russia, unlike Turkey, can be a mediator. Russia also understands that Turkey has a role to play too. If Turkey uses its influence and puts pressure on Azerbaijan, it will be possible to establish a ceasefire,” added the President.
Explaining why Armenia has not yet recognized Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence, Armen Sarkissian has stated that “Armenia still sees the light at the end of this horrible tunnel.”
