Minister of Diaspora: Armenian churches were defaced in Kessab, crosses were removed and people are being resettled

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said today that the Government keeps track of issues related to Kessab Armenians trying to promptly respond to and solve their problems.

Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan presented the situation in Kessab at today’s governmental session.

 

According to the Minister, 670 Armenian families were evicted after the recent events and around 400 of them are in Latakia, Damascus, dozen of families moved to Beirut and Anjar.

 

More than 200 people found refuge in the territory of St Astvatsatsin church. Hranush Hakobyan said that 38 people were in captivity, 24 of them were returned and 3 were forcefully moved to Turkish village of Vaqef.

 

“Children already go to school in Anjar and the ambulance service is operating in the church. The first items - food and others - are provided”, said the Minister adding that various structures and organizations started taking an active part in helping Kessab Armenians.

 

The Minister noted that unfortunately, Armenian churches were defaced, the Armenian crosses were removed, people are being resettled and the whole Armenians’ fortune is being robbed.

 

“As of now, not a single person left Kessab for Armenia though those residing in the church are said to be sent to Beirut and then to Armenia ”, said the Minister.
