Yerevan/Mediamax/. The U.S. Senate has approved the nomination of Richard M. Mills, Jr. as the new U.S. Ambassador to Armenia.
Robert Cekuta, formerly Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the Energy Resources Bureau, will be the new U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
Until recently, Richard Mills was the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy Beirut. Earlier he held the post of Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Malta, ad interim.
Richard Mills has joined the State Department since 1988. In early 1990s, he was a Desk Officer for Armenia and Azerbaijan and was then political officer at the U.S. Consulate in St. Petersburg.
The diplomat has also worked in U.S. Embassies in Dublin, Islamabad, Riyadh, London and Baghdad.
Other than English, Richard Mills knows French and Russian.
The term of office of U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern will expire in the near future. He was appointed to this post in 2011.
