Yerevan/Mediamax/. Dilijan International School (DIS) hosted 30 students from 13 countries including those from Armenia and Armenian Diaspora for the UWC Dilijan Summer Course on July 14-28.
UWC Dilijan Summer Course in Dilijan was sponsored by RVVZ Foundation established by co-founders of Dilijan International School Veronika Zonabend and Ruben Vardanian.
Throughout the Course the students learned about Social and Environmental Development issues and presented their final projects during the closing ceremony organized by the Summer Course participants at Dilijan Spa and Resort on July 27. Students shared their ideas regarding the improvement of Dilijan city infrastructure and making it more attractive for foreign tourists.
In her opening remarks Veronika Zonabend thanked local authorities for supporting the programmes of Dilijan International School. Dilijan Mayor Armen Santrosian, in his turn, welcomed the founders of the project and noted that the “launch of Dilijan International School will completely change the shape of Dilijan”.
Dilijan International School also invited students from Ayb high school and Quantum college to participate in the celebration of the Summer Course and to share their projects at the closing ceremony
Dilijan International School is a large-scale philanthropic initiative which will put Armenia on the world educational map. Among the Board of Trustees of Dilijan International School are prominent educational and business circles representatives from U.S., Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Japan and other countries.
Dilijan International School will open its doors in September 2014. By 2023 the school will host 650 students from at least 60 countries. 90% of gifted students will receive full scholarships granted by the DIS benefactors, including students from Armenia (10-12%) and Armenian Diaspora (30%).
Dilijan International School is expected to join the United World Colleges (UWC) network in October 2013. DIS’s full membership in the UWC will ensure an international student body composition: the school will reach to students from more than 100 countries through the network of UWC national committees.
The construction of Dilijan International School is carried out by RD Group led by Gagik Adibekyan.
Water bottles for the Summer Course were cordially supplied by Dilijan Water while Dilijan Spa and Resort contributed to the Summer Course by providing its facilities free of charge for the closing event.
