Yerevan /Mediamax/. Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan today has presented to President Armen Sarkissian a concept of creating a demilitarized security zone to protect the rights of Syunik residents.

Tatoyan has stressed that the border marking is taking place in the context of Azerbaijan’s open threat of war and anti-Armenian state policy.

“Azerbaijani forces make shots in the immediate vicinity of villages in Syunik region. In terms of the residents’ rights, the presence of the Azerbaijani military, signs and flags on the roads between the communities of Syunik have caused anxiety. There are also gross violations of property rights,” the Ombudsman said.

President Sarkissian has stressed that there is no official border demarcation between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which means that the process of determining the state border is at least legally uncertain at the moment.

The President and the Ombudsman have also discussed the efforts aimed at returning the POWs and finding the missing persons.
