Yerevan /Mediamax/. The press service of the Azerbaijani President has tried today to pass Aliyev’s birthday wishes to Putin for a full-fledged discussion on Karabakh.

The press service of Ilham Aliyev has issued a press release which says that the parties have discussed the situation in Karabakh but refrains from specifics. However, the statement emphasizes that it was their “the first conversation since the beginning of the war.”

Meanwhile, the Kremlin’s official website has not made a separate statement about this conversation.

The website has published a “combined” statement, which informs that the Russian leader has received personal congratulations on the phone by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, President and the First President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Commenting on reports about the conversation between Putin and Aliyev, Russian President’s Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said:

“It is one of the telephone conversations that have taken place, and the President of Azerbaijan has indeed congratulated President Putin on his birthday. The two leaders have briefly mentioned and discussed issues related to Karabakh. The dialogue will continue.”
