Putin and Obama discuss Nagorno-Karabakh

Yerevan /Mediamax/. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Barack Obama discussed Nagorno-Karabakh peace process in a phone conversation that took place on July 6 with the initiative of the Russian side.

“The President of Russia informed his American counterpart, as Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, of the results of the trilateral meeting with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, in St Petersburg on June 20. Vladimir Putin emphasized that Russia organized the talks to help stabilize the situation in the conflict zone as soon as possible and create the conditions for progress in the peace process. Barack Obama praised Russia’s efforts, and the leaders agreed to continue active cooperation in the Minsk OSCE Group on this vital issue”, Kremlin’s press service statement reads.

 

The White House press office reported:

 

“President Obama spoke by phone with Vladimir Putin to discuss President Putin’s June 20 meeting with Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia.  President Obama expressed his readiness to intensify efforts together with Russia and with France to achieve a comprehensive settlement to the conflict.
