Yerevan /Mediamax/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated today that following March 24 incident in Artsakh they had immediately stated that the Russian peacekeeping contingent is clarifying all the circumstances of what happened.

“The circumstances of what happened are not entirely clear to us. I would not like to go ahead and make final judgments now,” he told reporters after talks with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Moscow.

The Russian foreign minister said sometimes the calls that “the Russian contingent should be brought to responsibility or to launch an official investigation do not reflect the real attitude of the Armenian people and the Armenian leadership to the great role the peacekeeping contingent plays in maintaining stability in the region.”

As for the future activities of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, Sergey Lavrov said: “I do not know what will happen to it, because our so-called American and French partners in this group, suffering from Russophobia, are trying to reject everything that relates to Russia. They also “annulled” the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship stating that they will not communicate with us in this format. It is their right. If they are ready to sacrifice the interests of regulation of conflict in Karabakh and in the South Caucasus in general, it is their choice. Not only this issue, but all other issues become hostages of their Russophobe policy.”

The Russian minister considered this approach absolutely irresponsible.

“We are fully committed, as always, to supporting the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, we are committed to the implementation of all the agreements reached between the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in the trilateral format,” he said.
