Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenia is the key partner for Russia in the South Caucasus, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov has told in the interview to "Argumenti I Fakti” ("Arguments and Facts”) newspaper.

When asked if he considered that Russia was losing in Ukraine, Armenia and Georgia in geopolitical sense, Lavrov said:

“We are concerned with political processes in Ukraine, Armenia and Georgia, of course, because these are brotherly nations that are connected to us with a long history of relations, which includes sharing the same state.

Unfortunately, after the collapse of the USSR the West considered it was “the end of story” and reserved the right to heavy-handedly interfere in the affairs of other states and unceremoniously command domestic political processes. Ukraine might be the most blatant example of that.

It’s different with Armenia. That country is the key partner for Russia in the South Caucasus. We have strategic, allied relations with Armenia. The political dialogue and bilateral cooperation between the two parliaments and the two states in the global arena are intense. Russia is the main economic partner of Armenia. Our ties in education, culture, investment, military and technical sectors are developing dynamically.”
