Yerevan /Mediamax/. The delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is taking all necessary steps to ensure implementation of all procedures implied by the status of Armenian army officer Gurgen Alaverdyan, who is held in captivity in Azerbaijan.

Head of ICRC delegation Claire Meytraud has made the announcement at the meeting with Head of Defense Policy Department at the Armenian Defense Ministry Levon Ayvazyan on August 26.

Levon Ayvazyan conveyed the ministry’s concerns regarding the videos about Gurgen Alaverdyan, circulated in Azerbaijani media since August 23, and their contents. In the framework of the international humanitarian law, the circulated of these videos is a gross violation of Azerbaijan’s international commitments.

Given the years-long policy of the Azerbaijani authorities, the Armenian Ministry of Defense has urged ICRC to be more consistent in protecting the rights of ethnic Armenians under Azerbaijani jurisdiction.
